Emily explores the figure of Emily Dickinson through the lens of the silenced female voice, the desire for expression, and social constraint. In five movements, Polina Nazaykinskaya composes music for piano and cello that engages in a close dialogue with dance: intense passages, introspective moments, lyrical surges. The poem « They Shut Me Up in Prose » provides the emotional framework for the piece, serving both as a narrative inspiration and a musical foundation. The work questions the condition of women artists and the emancipation of poetic speech, while using an intimate timbre that highlights the inner voice rather than outward display.
